About me

Natalie Harman

Once upon a time I worked for large pharmaceutical corporations in London, in a variety of different roles, including performance coaching. I learned a lot and mostly enjoyed my time, but as I personally and emotionally grew, I realised it wasn’t what I wanted to do anymore; I wasn’t living an authentic life in line with my values and aspirations. Having gained immense insight and consequently experiencing profound transformation as a result of my own personal psychotherapy and mindfulness practice, I knew I wanted to retrain as a psychotherapist. Making the leap was not easy with a full-time career, but I leapt ahead and started retraining part-time in psychodynamic therapy in London.

Soon after, I migrated to Sydney, newly married and with a 3-month old son. I left a successful corporate career to be a stay-at-home mother. These were huge life changes, experienced in a very short time.  Our second son followed, and a couple of years later I  resumed my studies and embarked on a further four-year training in counselling and psychotherapy with the Jansen Newman Institute in Sydney. Having also benefited enormously from a personal mindfulness and meditation practice, I also trained as a mindfulness and meditation teacher.

Our third son followed, and now I am a mother to three young boys, a mindfulness and meditation teacher and a clinically accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with PACFA.

I work from an integrated, trauma-informed, somatic and holistic perspective. I strive for authenticity, both within myself and with my clients. I provide a nurturing, purposeful therapeutic connection with my clients, which provides a safe space for clients to discover and explore their emotions, process their experiences, and consequently uncover their authentic self.

I work with individuals experiencing the following:

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • stress

  • exhaustion and burnout

  • a sense of emptiness and loss

  • bereavement and grief

  • trauma, PTSD and complex trauma

  • difficulties coping with life stressors and major life changes such as migration, retirement or parenthood

  • relationship problems

  • a longing for connection

  • feeling flat and lifeless

I also offer relationship counselling. I follow the Gottman Method Couples Therapy process, which has 40-years of evidence based research behind it. I am trained to Level 2 and I also incorporate many therapeutic techniques into this process, including but not limited to: psychodynamic, CBT, mindfulness-based therapies, and somatic therapy.

My counselling practice is located in Strathfield, NSW. Daytime, weekend and evening appointments are available.
